Disney’s A Christmas Carol is a great version of a popular classic. Yes, Charles Dickens’ book has been made into a movie dozens of times. But this is truly a wonderful interpretation.
Robert Zemeckis both wrote and directed this version. He was at the helm of The Polar Express and Beowulf, both of which used performance capture. This is when you film the movements of an actor, which are translated to digital animation. Zemeckis continues to perfect his performance capture art in this latest work.
His A Christmas Carol is extremely imaginative and magical. Jim Carrey plays Ebenezer Scrooge, and he is joined by acting contemporaries Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Robin Wright Penn. The way Zemeckis has the three ghosts of Christmas take Scrooge on his journeys through the past, present and future is fast-paced and adventurous.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you see the film in 3D. The graphics are amazing. Beware of taking younger kids, as the end of the movie gets pretty dark.
